Arcanus stepped through the door—and stumbled to a halt. The chamber beyond hummed with energy, and at the very center hovered a flowering hawthorn branch, glowing runes carved along its length, the petals shifting in a wind that wasn’t there.
The Wand.
Arcanus’ pulse hammered in his throat, but before he could reach for the Hallow, a tingle ran along the back of his neck.
He wasn’t alone.
Slowly, he turned—and saw…you.
Yes, you, dear reader, peering through the frame of a glowing screen.
Arcanus’ eyes widened, jaw slack with shock. Can you blame him? After all, it’s not every day a stranger peers through the seams of reality itself.
For a moment, the two of you stare at one another—Arcanus and you, the one leaning a little closer now, wondering just how much of this is dream…and how much is destiny.
Then Arcanus straightens, curiosity overtaking his shock, a faint grin curling at the edges of his mouth.
“Well…something tells me this message is meant just as much for you.” He stoops to pick up a dusty book you hadn’t noticed lying on the floor, gesturing for you to come closer. “Shall we read it together?”
Stamped in faded gold on the cover, the title reads: Zell Knox’s Book of Shadows.
“Zell Knox…” he murmurs, turning the book over in his hands. “Now, why does that name sound so familiar?”
And then, together, you begin to read…
Where your energy flows, your life follows. Spend your energy wisely.
Have you ever walked into a room, and your spidey sense tells you something is off? Or been to a concert where you felt the excitement of the crowd every bit as much as the bass? That’s energy in action.
🔥 In spellcraft, raising energy is the act of building momentum, excitement, and force behind your intention. Without this, your intention is simply an idea without legs.
But energy alone isn’t enough—it must be directed with precision to bring about real transformation. Otherwise, it disperses and loses power.
Another possibility? The energy fuels unconscious magic. If you’ve ever known someone plagued by “bad luck,” this could be the result of excess energy ping-ponging about.
Raising and Directing Energy
Bonus points: The energy you’re about to raise can be used to activate the Fire Sigil. Scroll to the bottom to access the sigil before you start.
Energy can be raised through movement (like dancing or drumming), breathwork, sound (chanting, singing), or visualization.
A simple yet very effective method for raising energy—and one I consider to be a fundamental magic skill—is to draw energy from Earth and Sky, channeling it through the chakras in your palms.
Connect to Earth + Sky
Find a place where you won’t be disturbed and take a few moments to calm and center. Close your eyes, perhaps place one hand on your heart, one hand on your belly, and bring your focus to your breath.
See if you can maintain awareness on your inhales and exhales without trying to change them. (This can be harder than it sounds!)
🌍 Imagine that the soles of your feet, or whatever part of your body is touching the ground, are breathing in and out. Earth energy wells up from below, and your soles breathe this energy in. Feel it travel up your legs, moving all the way to the crown of your head where it fountains around you, filling your aura with Earth energy.
🌞 Bring your focus to the crown of your head, and feel a shimmering cascade of Sky energy enter from above. Let it wash through your entire body, flowing out through the soles of your feet, spilling into your aura to mix and mingle with the Earth energy.
You now have twin streams of energy flowing through you.
Build a Ball of Energy
Now, bring your hands in front of your heart, palms facing but not touching. Visualize Earth-Sky energy flowing from your heart, down your arms and into your hands.
✨ Rub your palms together vigorously until you feel heat building. Slowly, pull your palms an inch apart. See if you can sense the energy humming between your palms. If you gently bring your palms a little closer, then a bit further apart, like squeezing a very squishy ball, this might help you sense the energy. It feels like electrified taffy.
Draw more Earth + Sky energy down your arms, sending it out through your palm chakras, and feel how that subtly increases the hum between your hands.
As you draw more energy, see if you can pull your palms a little further apart while still maintaining the electrified taffy sensation. Repeat this until you’re holding a cantaloupe-sized ball of energy.
Direct the Energy
If you’d like to activate the Fire Sigil (see below), have the image before you.
🔥 With the ball of energy in your hands, infuse the ball with the power of elemental Fire. You might visualize the ball filling with flickering flames or simply chant “Fire, Fire, Fire” as you send energy into the ball.
When it feels ready—use your intuition—move the ball closer to the sigil, and see the energy absorbing into the symbol. The design might flash with light or shimmer with heat in your mind’s eye.
If you’re not activating the sigil, plant your palms on the ground and release the ball of energy, intending that it bring healing to the Earth.
When you’re done, visualize the stream of Sky energy tapering off and releasing, then do the same with the Earth energy. If you feel overly energized, place your palms or your forehead on the ground and release excess energy.
Being a wise steward of your energy is often easier said than done, with so many distractions and obligations tugging at your sleeve.
